Miss America

2009

Katie Stam
Seymour, Indiana

Katie Stam was crowned the first Miss America from the state of Indiana in the pageant's 88-year history. During her year of service, Katie worked extensively with Children's Miracle Network as the National Goodwill Ambassador, visiting dozens of children's hospitals across the country, raising millions of dollars and promoting the organization during numerous speaking engagements.

Katie also served as a spokesperson for her personal platform of Promoting Community Service and Involvement, embarking on a national tour working with non-profit organizations and spreading her message of volunteerism to hundreds of thousands. She was also the first Miss America in over 30 years to travel to Germany to visit our Armed Forces and dedicated much of her year of service to honoring our servicemen and women in uniform.

A soon-to-be graduate of the University of Indianapolis with a degree in Communication, Katie has continued to take her passion for service around the world. Katie plans to utilize her broadcast education to help build awareness and raise funds for various organizations and causes, including the American Dairy Association, Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, Breast and Ovarian Cancer and the performing arts. She is anxiously awaiting the release of her first children's book and recently married her college sweetheart, Brian.
